Three Things Thursday No. 11: Staying Healthy
Hiya!
Welcome to Three Things…. Sunday??
Sorry about that. The good news is that my book liquidation sale is going REALLY well. (IF you don’t want to miss out on books with prices as low as 75% off, see Thing 3 below!).
I’m working non-stop to add books to the $5 sale fast enough to keep up with the people buying them up. It’s one of those “good problems to have” situations. Of course the problem part is that I’m listing books morning ‘til night and not much else!
But I didn’t want to leave you hanging, so here’s three QUICK things for the (last) week:
Thing 1: Avoiding Illness
Like I told you last week, I am slammed right now with all the tasks necessary to take our online bookstore to the next stage of it’s evolution and I really really do not want to get sick. (Well, who ever does?)
With so many people around me reporting bouts of flu and bronchitis I’m getting a little paranoid. So, I thought it might be worth looking at ways to avoid getting sick.
Some of my techniques are:
Avoid (or manage) stress
Stress wears you out along with all of the other things that deplete your reserves such as not getting enough sleep, not getting enough fresh air, not getting enough movement in your day (or getting too much). You know the drill. Maybe take a seasonal pause on things that stress you out? Make sure to rest, meditate, exercise, do whatever you have to do to be at your physical best.
Avoid (or manage) sugar intake (and other immune system suppressors)
Like the above, eating or drinking things that tax your immune system is going to cause your ability to resist those nasty bugs is going to take a hit.
Avoid (or manage) contact with illness-causing bacteria and viruses
Obviously some people are working with, caring for or visiting the sick (or the public) and are going to be needing to manage that in all the ways you would expect – frequent hand washing, avoiding close contact and/or protective clothing if appropriate. But for normal every-day life there a few tricks we use that seem to reduce our incidence of colds and flu:
We wash our hands with soap after being in public places especially places like stores, the library, the thrift store and more. (Some people keep hand sanitizer in the car for this purpose but I never remember that!)
We try to avoid touching our faces while in / after being in those places until we can wash our hands.
We wipe down things like library books and other items as soon as we bring them home. This one seems OCD but I swear doing this dropped our incidence of colds by 80%.

Thing 2: Garland Tutorial
So sorry this took so long!! I had it *almost* done a few weeks ago and then this new phase of the bookstore happened and I didn’t finish it. So, I took a bit of time yesterday and just finished the last few pieces and made it available. I really hope it is useful to you!!

Thing 3: $5 Picture Books
The sale was going so coconuts that I had to temporarily close it – it’ll only be open when I’m here to keep on top of things since our website doesn’t know about inventory!! It will open again tomorrow at 10am Pacific Time and I’m listing a slew of new books on our $5 book page. There’s some really lovely picture books and board books on there now that are going to go super fast, so make sure you go over on Monday and check it out!!

That’s it!

Much love,
P.S. I’d ask what you are reading but honestly I’m not reading anything right now! I’m so fried at the end of each day that I am just vegging out. I’m not normally a person who is inclined to play videogames, but I’ve been playing Stardew Valley with my daughter and we’re both having a ball. So there you go. It’s not always intellectually elevated around here. LOL!
