quilt sandwich

The quilt sandwich refers to the three layers of a quilt before and during the quilting process. The top layer is the quilt top or flimsy, the middle layers is the batting (sometimes called wadding), and the bottom layer is the backing. These three layers are then affixed together using one of several types of quilting or tying to form the body of the quilt.
